This statue is an extremely rare representation as shown here with his hands raised in mudra. Image Details:x He is depicted standing with both feet firmly positioned on a double lotus plinth, with both his hands raised in the Vitarka mudra, a teaching gesture. The profile is plump, wearing a long diaphanous garment in Theravadin Buddhist fashion, with the robe folded across the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder and breast partially uncovered. The end fold of the robe draped gracefully over his shoulder, overlapped and marked with a fish-tail-shaped knotch. The face is portrayed in delicate detail, with a serene expression, cheeks are plump, nose prominent, heavy arched eyebrows set above bulging eyes, and exaggerated earlobes rest on his shoulders. His head is covered in graduated sections of hair curls, whorled with open spaces, indicating a thinning effect. xxxxx Phra Sangkajai (Sangkachai) was a Buddhist Arhat during the time of Lord Buddha.
