Seller: number-one (386) 100%, Location: Los Angeles, California, Ships to: US, Item: 172411379925 This is an original 100 plus year old brass/iron push button actuated doorbell. The doorbell was made by Russell & Erwin who are best known for their high quality twist type doorbells. While there is no patent date it was probably made in the 1890's. The bell has a unique mechanism where a push of the button moves the gears that enables the bell to ring. This is actually a very practical bell since no winding is required and most people are familiar with a doorbell button. The 4" bell is made of brass and the 5" back plate is made of steel. The 1 1/2" diameter button assembly is made of brass. The bell is setup to go through a 6 1/2" wall although the rod could be cut and installed on a door. The bell is in very good condition with only a few spots on the back plate plating. The bell produces a soft ring with a nice reverberating sound.
