Clear cedar means free of knots. This is the best quality of cedar availablein western red. The diagram shows all three rail part profiles and recommended specifications. The finished stairway is one I build using my product. The rails and balusters were primed using an oil base thinned by 20%.The top and bottom rails were finished using a latex semi-gloss paint. The balusters were finished with two coats of a latex solid color stain.I prime, paint and stain the parts before I install them. The railing can be allowed to weather naturally or treated with a clear water sealer. The post caps are cedar and are available at most home centers or thru the web.I do not currently sell post caps. If you plan on using my balusters check what balusters I currently havebefore buying an 8 ft. rail set. This 8 ft. rail section is designed to hold 17 of my 5.5" wide clear cedar balusters. For the balusters to be held in place with the spline there should be no spacebetween each balusters. Typically these balusters were placed right next to each other. This creates a second repeating pattern If you have your own balusters and want space between them you will needto secure them into the rails another way. Check with a local carpenter, they maysuggest attaching them with small stainless steel brad nails or stainless steelsquared drive finish screws. Each order Includes Installation HardwareDetailed Instructions(8) - #8 x 3" Flat Stainless Phillips Screws(For attaching the top rail & bottom rail to the post.) (7) - #8 x 1 1/4" Flat Stainless Phillips Screws(For attaching top cap to top rail from underneath.) I also include one extra screw of each size above. The are no exposed screws in the top cap when installation is complete.
