F. Bertrand De Moleville,” subtitled “Minister of State, 1790-1791 Relative to the Last Year of the Reign of Louis the Sixteenth,” translated from the original manuscript of the author into English, with a 91-page Introduction by the Editor-in-Chief, G. K. Fortescue, LL.D., Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum, with illustrations, including a tissue-guarded frontispiece in each book. The set was published by The Caxton Publishing Company, of London, in 1909 (date of copyright) and is one of the wonderful vintage “Romances of Royalty” series. Comte Antoine François Bertrand de Molleville (1744–1818) was an advisor to the King Louis XVI around and just after the French Revolution. The books measure 9.6 inches x 6.75 inches, will require 3 inches along your bookshelf and have 373 + 364 pages (+ illustrations), which are gilt edged to the tops and hand-cut to the side and bottom rims. The books are in good condition for their age, internally neat and clean, with minor wear/bumps and are a little grubby/faded to the original cloth hardback covers, with a previous owner’s signature at the front of each volume and no other ink or pencil markings in either of the books.
