Item:264406225157This is an Authentic beautiful Pre-Columbian Mayan decorated Polychrome bowl, late Pre-classic Period, circa AD 700 to 850. This spectacular bowl is decorated around the outside and inside with glyphs painted in three colors. It measures 3 1/2" high, 8 1/2" across at the top and is good original ancient condition; it has a ¼" chip on the outside of the rim and with some encrustation and wear consistent with its age. This an authentic Piece from a private estate,rare and a Museum piece.Maya Pottery are ceramics produced in the PreColumbian Maya culture of Mesoamerica(Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras). The vessels used different shapes, colors, sizes, and had varied purposes. Vessels for the elite could be painted with very detailed scenes, Elite pottery, most often in the form of straight-sided beakers often called "vases". Potters usually outlined figures of animals and people in black, yellows, browns, oranges and reds. These unique vessels are usually found in great condition signaling a ritual function.
