Wide and squat, this cast-iron potjie cauldron combines a classic look with an ancient design that’s remarkably efficient for fire burning and cauldron bubbling. The three-legged pot’s round potbelly has two raised ribs; a perfectly fitting lid sets into the raised lip. This hand-crafted pot is perfect for small-portion outdoor cooking, spellwork, or use as an altar tool.

The pot has an eighteen-ounce fluid capacity and measures a manageable 4.5 inches high by 5.5 inches wide. It’s a sturdy, hefty piece at 3.3 pounds, but can be conveniently carried by its arched metal handle.

Made from pure grey cast iron with no pot-metal additives, cauldrons and iron cookware from Annie’s Collections™ are molded, finished, and polished. Each item is food-safe and can be used for cooking, burning incense or candles, holding coarse-ground spices or herbs, or an endless array of other uses. Seasoning instructions will be included with your purchase. Their round shape distributes the heat evenly around the sides and maintains liquids at a low point to keep from burning, which makes them a great choice for slow/long cooking meals – chili, beans, stews, roasts, menudo, even cornbread and deserts to name just a few.  Cast iron is also a common choice for searing or frying food having the ability to maintain their heat over an uneven heating surface such as a campfire.

A potjie (pronounced “poikey”) is a time-tested form of cooking pot that has been used throughout Europe and Africa since at least the 1600s, and possibly as far back as the Iron Age. Their design exemplifies the unsung mechanical genius of ancient crafters: the deep, round bottom ensures a good rolling boil that cooks well and prevents food from sticking, while the three legs provide maximal stability, and the wide-mouthed shape allows versatility in outdoor cooking. Each potjie pot is equipped with a sturdy handle for lifting and a well-fitted lid. Cook in your potjie over an open fire or a gas burner, or pile hot coals on the deep, commodious lid to make an efficient Dutch oven.  Potjie Pots come in several sizes from small herb pots to large sugar kettles
