T all, proud, and heavy from the American Brilliant  period (1885 to 1915), is this quite nice antique cut glass crystal lead pitcher!

T his cut glass pitcher is a wonderful example of  the best fine cut glass pitchers that were very popular with wealthy families in late19th Century America.

T his pitcher is one of the nicest examples from  the American Brilliant period that I have had in my cut glass inventory.   The blank pitcher is quite heavy with thick lead crystal glass.  The glass  cuts are deep into the thick glass.  The motifs cover the entire pitcher  with several unusual motifs found very precise and time consuming glass cutting.

T he handsome water pitcher was a recent  acquisition at an antique auction.  Few cut glass pieces of this caliber  rarely come up at auction, and I was pleased to have won it.

T he lower part of the pitcher is dominated by  large motifs made up of diamonds, fans, stars, strawberry diamonds and triangle motifs with and without  cuts to the centers.  The front of the pitcher has deep miter cuts  crisscrossing filled in with a large fan, diamonds and stars.  On both sides of the  central part of the pitcher are two large  pinwheels expertly cut.  The top rim on two sides has the classic cut glass sawteeth.   The outside of the spout has several large panels ground into the glass.  The large handle has thumbprint motilfs cut  from top to bottom in the center of the handle.  The large bottom has a classic bursting star cut into it.

A ll of the miter cuts and motifs reflect the  extensive cutting skill of a master glass cutter.

T he maker's mark remains undiscovered. 

T he water pitcher is 9 3/4 inches high by 4 3/4 inches wide  at the bottom.  

Condition: R arely does one find a cut glass piece in the near  perfect condition as this water pitcher.  The saw teeth on the top rim are  without damage.  While there maybe a few tiny bruises to the motifs, I find  none.  The bottom has very slight wear marks or scratches. The glass is with  brilliant clarity with no cloudiness.  All in all, an antique cut glass  pitcher in great condition.
