From the web ...Simon Loscertales Bona An Emblematic Firm Closed on April 2 Centro de Historias web: www.zaragoza.es/ciudad/museos/es/chistor The Center of Stories of the City of Zaragoza, after opening its halls to previously forgotten artistic disciplines such as photography, fashion, graphic arts and comics, focuses its attention, on this occasion, on the art of furniture and decorative arts with an exhibition that recovers the industrial and artistic heritage of an emblematic company from Zaragoza. Simón Loscertales Bona and his family business turned Zaragoza into a world reference in the art of furniture and decorative arts during its 105-year history (1890-1995). These disciplines have historically been treated as "minor arts" so this exhibition in the Center of Stories, former convent of San Agustin, aims to recover the memory of this international firm with the sample of some of the projects of furnishing and decoration brought to out in Zaragoza, Spain and other parts of the world, and give them the deserved value of a work of art. This exhibition also recovers the personality of Simón Loscertales Bona, an entrepreneur involved with the society of his time and with his workers to whom he instilled all his knowledge to be able to make, through a modern industrial organization, impeccable pieces of furniture both within the language of the more modern design as reproductions of historical styles in which the high level of artistic quality obtained by the firm is appreciated. The factory of this company was like a symphony orchestra in which all the instruments had to be, in addition to well tuned, perfectly matched. The operators of the sixteen sections that made up the company each acted with extraordinary professionalism. And, fortunately, those magnificent craftsmen had before them a sensational orchestra conductor who made each one's work a treasure of art and beauty. That director was: Simón Loscertales Bona. Since he joined the company founded by his father Luciano in 1912, in 1890, he had in mind the creation of a Furniture Museum in his city in which the styles and techniques of furniture could be explained to the general public. This dream never became a reality but this temporary exhibition, even for a few months, comes to recognize the importance of this art and the figure of Simon Loscertales Bona as master of it. The origins, of what would be an emblematic signature over the years, took place in the company founded in 1890 by Luciano Loscertales Sanz in calle Fuenclara, next to Calle Alfonso I, in Zaragoza. The factory was born in an economic context marked by the incipient industrialization of Zaragoza, the result of successful investments in sectors little implemented in the city such as furniture and decoration. Already in the first decade of the 20th century, "L. Loscertales "saw the need to install a store where he could exhibit his magnificent pieces. This is how he opened the first branch on Calle Cinco de Marzo, No. 4, which would remain in that location until the fifties when it was moved to Paseo de la Independencia, nº 34. From the beginning, Luciano Loscertales was able to instill interest in training in his son Simón, natural heir of his company. While he was forming, the factory was prospering until finally it became necessary to expand facilities, also in the first decade of the twentieth century, which would be located between numbers 19 and 33 of the now disappeared Paseo de los Plátanos (present block between the Paseo de la Constitución and Calle Francisco Vitoria). During these first decades, of "L. Loscertales "did not leave only pieces of furniture destined to institutions or private houses, but also began to forge the first integral projects of furnishing and decoration, both for Zaragoza and for the cities where they were opening branches: Vigo, Sevilla, San Sebastián, etc. An example of an integral project is the fact for the Banco Popular de los Previsores del Porvenir in Zaragoza, calle Alfonso nº 12, and San Sebastián (1929). To emphasize in these first decades is the furniture made in mahogany of Cuba for the rooms of views and the hall of plenaries of the Palace of Justice of the Supreme Court (1925), the pieces destined to the hotels "Cristina" and "Bristol", open on the occasion of the Ibero-American Exhibition of Seville in 1929, the furnishing of the school "Joaquín Costa" (1929), or the meeting room and the management office of the Municipal Savings Bank of Vigo (1930).
