Seller: pennantique (3,550) 99.1%, Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 272468505657 Penn Antique Restoration 60"x90" Restored Antique Gothic Oak Double Entry Doors WOW! Grand pair of antique doors salvaged from an old church in New York City. Each door has a solid pine core covered with 1/4" thick red oak veneers. Please don't think "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern furniture to disguise the inferior materials underneath; these veneers are very thick and help strengthen and stabilize the door, as well as protect it against warping. Solid oak doors would've warped a long time ago. The doors have 6 panels on each side: 2 square on top, 2 long, rectangular in the middle, and 2 square on bottom. On the front side, the panels have beautifully- carved, Gothic quadrafoils and ogee arches. On the back side, the panels are raised. Hardware: *Besides the mail door and cover, the doors do not come with any hardware. The stunning, "Sargent", cast bronze handles and push plates shown in the photos are being offered to buyer of these doors first. We bought them from the same place we bought the doors, and even though they weren't found with the doors, they are perfect for them! If you are planning on buying the doors, the hardware will be offered to you for $500. *We will not sell the hardware until someone buys these doors. We know the hardware could sell quickly; we posted an identical handle and push plate set before and it only lasted 3 days on eBay. We figure that only a handful of people will be able to use these doors due to their size, so they may be on eBay for a while. We bought the hardware heavily tarnished and dirty. Since then, we've cleaned and polished the bronze, leaving some of the patina around the details to enhance their beauty. We removed the original flushbolts because they weren't in good shape. We have a good selection of flushbolts, but we didn't want to install any because we're not sure of what your plans are: you may want to install the flushbolts on the inner edges of one of the doors, or you may even use these as 2 single doors. If you prefer to have the flushbolts and/or the mail slot plugged and patched, we could do it--email us for a quote. Restoration: At the point of salvage, the doors were found covered under many layers of paint. The top coat was a dark pink color, so you know we couldn't wait to strip them and let the bold, beautiful red oak grain show forth. The hardware that came with these doors was hideous! Ugly aluminum crash bars and handles. As if the pink paint wasn't bad enough! Since we got the doors, we thoroughly stripped and sanded them. After we removed the paint, we found a broken piece of veneer in the lower corner of one of the doors, so we replaced it using antique red oak. We also removed the aluminum hardware, plugged the holes, and re-veneered the plugged areas using antique red oak (see "before" & "after" photos under "Hardware holes"). If you choose to go with different hardware besides the pull and plate set, you now have 2 solid doors to work with. Condition: The doors are very strong, heavy, sturdy, and in excellent condition with only minor scrapes and scratches. *Please note, a couple of the photos show the doors having some irregularities along the bottom edges; there are no problems, those are just the folds in the black fabric that the door was sitting on during the photo shoot. Swing: The doors are set up to swing outwardly, however, we could change them to swing inwardly--email us for a quote. Modification: We could also modify these doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, casing, trim or add to the height or width, reverse the swing, plug the mail slot or flushbolt holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote. Finishing: After reading about replacing veneer and patching holes, you may be concerned about how the doors will finish. If you plan on painting the doors, then you shouldn't have any worries, and if you plan on staining and finishing the doors, take a look at the last 2 photos to give you an idea of how our patches finish. Our finisher stained and finished that door and he could also do these doors also--email us for a quote. Doors like this rarely come around, and when they do, they normally have a lot of watchers, but not too many potential buyers due to their size. However, if you have the space for these doors and are seriously interested in them, I wouldn't recommend waiting too long to commit, because it happened just a few months ago: (true story) 2 customers were inquiring about the same large pair of doors at the same time. One on eBay and the other off eBay via email. By the time the customer off eBay asked us to send her the invoice through PayPal, the customer on eBay made an offer good enough to automatically end the auction. What are the odds! We like sales, but that one was bittersweet because we've been corresponding with the other customer via email for about 2 weeks. After 30+ emails, it's tough having to explain what happened and why we couldn't sell the doors to her. However, it's first come, first serve--don't miss out!
