An online copy is available at Domestic(USA)Guarantee. This item is from an estate, being an archaic vintage lock set featuring the correct, original components. All is frozen in place by rust. This item is unidentified by lack of maker mark of any kind, unless under the rust. It is most likely privately made, perhaps one or nearly one of a kind, by a local blacksmith or, even, by plantation or ranch members or military, etc. The quality of construction shows that it is hand forged, hand cut, and hand assembled. Material is either iron or steel, maybe some parts one or the other. Guesstimate of age is plus or minus 150 years owing to the method of making and the crude mechanism and the aged design and quality of appearance. What was its purpose is also guessable. Perhaps it was made on a plantation to serve as a storeroom lock (it came to Texas from Louisiana), perhaps it went on an immigrants trunk, perhaps it was used for a jail lockup, perhaps for a strongbox, or barn door...................who can tell??????????? It is VERY unusual, and it is unusual that it has survived, especially with all pieces intact, key still in lock. Size is 6 3/4"W X 6 1/8"T,or 9 1/4"W including the hasp in locked position. The key itself is very large at 5 1/2"long and is 2"wide at the round grip on the end. Again, concerning th date made, it could be Confederate era made, or even even from Colonial times or before. Only an expert can be confident about the date..................Only conjecture is offered here...................All items shipped by this seller will be carefully protected and wrapped for shipping.
