From a recently opened 1942 dated crate. These covers would have been used on all army posts and hospitals in the US and overseas. These were also utilized by Graves Registration teams and used to manufacture field expedient snow suits during the Battle of the Bulge according to Shelby Stanton's U.S. Army Uniforms of WWII. On page 86 of that work it is stated that in late December of 1944 "White cloth was not available, but the 300th Quartermaster Salvage Repair Company secured more than 5,000 mattress covers from the Reims depot and began manufacturing expedient hooded snow camouflage suits." I do not know what form those suits made from mattress covers would have taken. Measures approximately 82" long x 37" wide x 4 inches deep. Closes with tie tapes.
