Mimbreño dinnerware was inspired by the thousand-year-old pottery art of the ancient Mimbres Indians of Southwestern New Mexico culture. The iconic Mimbreño dinnerware pattern designs were adapted by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, one of this country’s earliest woman architects and was originally served in the Super Chief dining cars on the Santa Fe railroad beginning in 1937. The swimming fish design is pure delight. This very nice ivory piece has one chip inside the upper rim and is backstamped made expressly for Santa Fe Dining Car Service.
