This actual coin was in circulation in ancient Judea during Jesus lifetime: The main body of the pendant is silver-plated pewter with two Emerald Green Jade beads on a 16 inch necklace chain. The reverse of this necklace has the Chi Rho Christogram bracketed by the Greek letters Alpha and Omega referring to Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. As the smallest coin in circulation in ancient Judea, they were crudely struck with a star on the front and anchor on the reverse. Most have partial strikes and are heavily worn. This particular coin shows approximately 90% of the Anchor representing Judean power. The Widow's Mite is one of history's most famous coins....It was the focus of one of Jesus' most heartfelt teachings. This original Prutah, commonly referred to as a "Widow's Mite", actually circulated in the Holy Land during the time of Jesus, 2,000 years ago and has survived through two millennia of turbulent history. This coin is from the Holy Land and was minted during the reign of Alexander Jannaeus; King and High Priest of Judea (103 to 76 B.C.). There is a very nice patina on this coin. As mentioned in Mark 12:41-44 & Luke 21:1-4, Jesus relates the story of a poor widow’s generosity: 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she,out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” The Widow’s Offering 21 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” This Prutah coin is guaranteed original struck approximately 2000 years ago (not a replica or “Museum Quality” copy). The Prutah became popularly known as a Widow’s Mite after publication of the King James Version of the Bible.
