It is one of the earliest examples. Their use was relatively short-lived due to the need for re-signing caused by the never-ending rebuilding, new building and colour coding alongside the integration with new bus, train, urban train and other lines. If you Google online images you might find some similar. You would be extremely lucky to find any ever offered for sale.Rue Copernic (Copernicus) was so renamed in 1864. It runs east of Rue Victor Hugo and the Metro station of that name. The Victor Hugo Metro station is one stop down from Charles de Gaulle-Etoile (under the Arc de Triomphe at one end of Champs Elysées). See it centre left of metro plan (image 3).Victor Hugo was one of the very first metro stations that opened in 1900. For safety reasons, the station was relocated a few yards along the line in 1931. It is entirely possible that this sign was a casualty of that relocation.Made from vitreous enamel fused onto sheet steel. Heavy gauge - unlike modern versions it can't be bent easily. Very durable. It is convex (domed) with the white enamel in relief. Please take a look at my other listings on eBay Australia, Canada, Ireland, UK and US.Free worldwide shipping.
