It shows railways, roads and canals, and gives a broad view of a wider area. It also includes an introduction and a more detailed map of a small town or village. This One Inch Ordnance Survey map covers the western area of County Durham, stretching from Stanhope eastward to Durham City itself (which is split by the right hand margin), and from Lanchester southward to Bishop Auckland. It is an area of rich contrasts, with the Wear Valley meandering through the map; the western part of the map is partly moorland, while everywhere there are industrial railways, collieries and steel works, long since gone. On the reverse we include a detailed map of Brancepeth Colliery. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on this map. The towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map are: Co Durham: Bearpark, Billy Row, Bishop Auckland, Brancepeth, Brandon, Broom, Byers Green, Cornsay, Coundon, Crook, Escomb, Esh Winning, Framwellgate Moor, Frosterley, Hamsterley, Hedleyhope, Helmington Row, Hunwick, Kimblesworth, Kirk Merrington, Lanchester, Langley Moor, Langley Park, Middlestone, Nevilles Cross, Newfield, Plawsworth, Satley, Spennymoor, Stanhope, Sunderland Bridge, Tow Law, Tudhoe, Ushaw Moor, Waskerley, Waterhouses, Willington, Witton Gilbert, Witton le Wear, Wolsingham. It will be posted in a board backed envelope to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.WE HAVE AN EXTENSIVE CATALOGUE OF CD'S OF OLD DIRECTORIES SUCH AS KELLYS, PIGOTS & WHITES THAT ARE A VALUABLE RESEARCH RESOURCE OF USE TO LOCAL HISTORIANS & GENEALOGISTS. PLEASE VISIT OUR EBAY SHOP TO SEE OUR CURRENT LISTINGS. NB: We are unable to do searches of maps. We stock almost 3000 maps covering the UK and unfortunately do not have the "local" knowledge of the area concerned and trying to find specific streets etc is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack unless you know where to look. All our maps have descriptions of the area shown so we suggest a bit of research should be able to narrow it down.
