Seller: jimbo962 (1,158) 100%, Location: Richmond, Kentucky, Ships to: US, Item: 283827465802 You are bidding on an original limited edition fine art print by noted watercolor golf artist James Ellis. Shown is Oakmont Country Club. Few championship venues in the world of golf have the tradition of Oakmont. Created in 1903 by designer Henry Fownes, Oakmont has hosted more major Championships than any other course in the U.S. which include; eight United States Opens, five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Championships, and two U.S. Women’s Open. Oakmont remains perhaps the most difficult course in North America, with 210 deep bunkers (personified by the Church Pews), hard and slick greens that slope away from the player, and tight fairways requiring the utmost precision. Oakmont was the site of “the greatest round of the 20th century”: Johnny Miller’s final round 63 at the 1973 U.S. Open. Golf Digest ranks Oakmont #4 in its most recent version of America’s Top 100 courses. Once tens of thousands of trees (mostly planted in the 1960s) were removed, Oakmont’s original penal design was re-established, with the game’s nastiest, most notorious bunkers (founder-architect H.C. Fownes staked out bunkers whenever and where ever he saw a player hit an offline shot), deep drainage ditches and ankle-deep rough. Oakmont also has the game’s swiftest putting surfaces, which were showcased during the U.S. Open in 2016, despite early rains that slowed them down a bit. The U.S.G.A. has already awarded the 2025 U.S. Open to Oakmont again, reinforcing its title as it the Host of the uniquely has virtually no water hazards, and, since 2007, almost no trees. Winners at Oakmont are a who’s who of major champions; Dustin Johnson, Angel Cabrera, Ernie Els, Johnny Miller, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazen and Tommy Armour, winning the first US Open at Oakmont in 1927. This is a giclee print on watercolor paper using archival inks and measures 13 x 19 inches. The print is hand signed and numbered by the artist, edition 10/200. Ellis' works are featured at many fine golf clubs around the world including Shinnecock Hills, Winged Foot, Garden City, Bethpage, Merion, Sea Island, The Country Club and others. The colors are much more luminous than the low resolution JPEG is able to capture in this photo. This piece is unframed. Winning bidder to pay $7.95 USPS PRIORITY MAIL to US lower 48.
