It has a natural spring adjoining Temperance Creek from the East running through the old tailing piles from the original patented gold mine known as the Oak and Reese making the chances of finding gold immense. The Oak and Reese was the biggest producing mine in the area. This is the only portion of Temperance Creek that can be realistically claimed. Temperance, Cotton and all the Creeks in this region are famous gold bearing Creeks. To get a claim on any of the Creeks in this area are rare, from Hornitos all the way to Bear Valley. Obtaining a claim below a patented gold mine is very desirable, due to the lode mines milling their ore and letting the excess cons drain back into the Creeks giving people the chance to find milled gold that the lode mines lost in their tailings, which on average was about 30 percent. An inviting little waterfall, a minefield of bedrock, big boulders, gravel bars, and quartz veins, that collect gold, make this a great location to pan, sluice, high bank, crevice, snipe, moss, and possibly use a smaller dredge. The picture shown is the gold I found from sampling the creek. A nice little picker and another piece that looks like is has mercury on it. Tailings on the claim and the water being low this time of year, is the perfect combination for a metal detectors paradise for finding gold. The pictures shown in the body of this listing (see below) show two recent finds from a friend of mine whom was metal detecting in the Hunter Valley Mining District. There is also plenty of ore laying around the claim that can be crushed, which will yield gold. Photos were taken within the last couple of weeks. As with most creeks in this area, they dry up until the first couple of rains come. The benefit with this claim though is that there is a natural spring feeding into the lower portion of the creek coming in from the East. Accessible by 2-wheel drive with numerous areas to be able to camp and or bring a smaller 5th wheel. This claim will give you ample opportunity for finding gold. Here's your chance to own a fantastic gold rich mining claim! Come see it for yourself and let this claim help you make mining a part of your family’s future. This claim is the real deal for an experienced or novice miner. With GOLD prices starting to move steadily upward, there is no better time to own a gold claim! This was claimed as a lode claim instead of a placer, due to the all the different aliquots that would have had to be required if it were made a placer claim. There are numerous quartz veins that run through this claim in many different directions and we found gold in one of those veins which makes it a lode claim. Regardless you own all the mineral rights on your claim if it is a lode or placer. Mining claims are mineral rights to Government land and the rights to extract precious metals. They are considered real property and can be bought, sold, leased, willed, tranferred and etc. With that being said they have tremendous resale value. The Hunter Valley Mining District, West Belt, Mariposa County Location, Geology, History, Ore Deposits, Mines Location and History: This district is in the northwest corner of Mariposa County, in the general area of Hunter Valley, the Don Pedro Reservoir and Lake McClure. It was named for William W. Hunter, a well-known engineer. There was extensive placer gold mining here during the 1850s and some copper mining in the 1860s. The lode gold mines were active until the early 1900s. Some mining was done again during the 1930s, and the Pyramid mine has been prospected recently. Geology: The district is underlain by northwest-trending belts of slate of the Mariposa Formation (Upper Jurassic) and greenstones, chert and slate of the Amador Group (Middle to Upper Jurassic). Several small diorite and granodiorite intrusions are mapped. Ore Deposits: A number of northwest-striking systems of gold-quartz veins are in the slate, chert and greenstone. Numerous stringers and cross veins are present. A number of high-grade pockets have been found. The ore contains free gold and often abundant sulfides, and milling ore commonly averaged one ounce per ton in gold. None of the veins have been mined to depths of more than a few hundred feet. Mines: Blue Cloud, Cotton Creek, Iron Duke, Morning Star, Oak and Reese ($500,000-$600,000), Orange Blossom, Pyramid ($200,000), Schoolhouse, Yellowstone. The Oak and Reese is a former lode Au mine located in secs. 32 & 33, T3S, R16E, and in sec. 4, T4S, R16E, MDM, 2.1 km (6,900 feet) SSE of Hunter Valley Mountain (coordinates of record), in the headwaters area of Temperance Creek. Property was comprised of 2 claims covering 26.15 acres. Mineralization is a vein deposit (Blue Lead vein) and 2 inteersecting veins at right angles, hosted in chert and Late Jurassic greenstone. The ore body is pipe-like in form, strikes N35-40W, dips 70-80NE at a thickness of 1.52 meters. Hunter Valley cherts, shales & siltstones form the hanging wall and greenstone porphyrite forms the footwall. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains). Workings include underground openings with a total length of 381 meters and an overall depth of 137.16 meters, and comprised of a shaft, drifts and stopes.
