Description: A nice very fine or better Banknote from Turkey. This is the banknote issue in accordance with the Law of 6 August 1332 AH (1913). It is the 20 piastres or 20 Qroush issued by the Ottoman High State. The front of the banknote has writing in black in Arabic letters on a orange background. It shows the denomination, the date of the law, the issuing authority, the serial number, and two signatures. The back of the banknote is blank and has no writing or design. This particular note has the serial number 689086 and is series J, both of which are shown on the front in black. The note has a watermark depicting a geometric design repeated throughout the note. Please carefully review the scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1913 (note the Krause World Paper book suggests that the date 1332AH corresponds to 1916-1917 AD, which is incorrect).
Printer: Unknown, but the banknote is issued by the authority of the Ottoman High State.
Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/8" by ~3 1/2".
Pick Number: P 88.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good very fine or better with all the details being well preserved. The note is lightly soiled but has no stains. It has several vertical folds and one heavy vertical central crease, which is obvious from the back. The note has a light horizontal fold. It also has several additional light bumps here and there. The banknote has no pinhole, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. The edges show general light roughness and minor nicks. The corners of the note, are intact, show bumps, and rounding. Be that as it may, this is still a very nice and rather desirable banknote, which would make a good addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
