It is titled O MY LOVE TONIGHT. The artwork and the verse were done by LUCIA PEARCE. The saying on the poster reads: O MY LOVE TONIGHT THE SKY IS A DARKENED CIRCUS TENT ABOVE OUR DREAMS AND THE MOON SLOWLY WALKS A TIGHTROPE INTO MORNING. LUCIA This is a 50+ year old vintage original, NOT a modern reproduction. Authenticity is guaranteed. It is printed on high-quality, heavy poster paper. The colors are clear and bright, and the image quality is superb. The collection was aquired from an elderly gentleman who was a poster dealer in the 60's , as well as an avid collector. He paid well over 100k to store the collection all these years. They have been stored away flat and unused, and the colors are still very bright and vibrant. The artist, formerly know as Lucia Pearce, resumed her maidien name in the late 70s. She is now known as Lucia Capacchione, Ph.D., art therapist, trainer and best-selling author of 13 books. Originally from southern California, she now lives in Cambria, California. In addition to having a private practice and directing an international certification training program (Creative Journal Expressive Arts), she has continued creating visual art in many different styles and media. Her books and audio programs are available at www.LuciaC.com. Lucia studied art in the late 50s with famed artist and graphic designer, Corita Kent (Sister Mary Corita) at the legenday Art Department of Immaculate Heart College in Hollywood. Lucia then worked for world-renowned designers, Charles and Ray Eames, at their Venice, California studio. After marrying fellow Eames office designer, Peter Pearce, Lucia gave birth to two children, Celia and Aleta Pearce. From 1964-70, she created a series of limited edition original silk screen prints (serigraphs) which were exhibited at college campuses, galleries and other public places in California, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Inspired by child-rearing, in 1965 Lucia trained in the Montessori Method of early education with the late Nancy McCormick Rambusch, founder of the American Montessori Society. At age 28, Lucia was appointed director of a federally-funded Head Start pre-school program for 300 children sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Ironically enough, Lucia the political activist, had painted picket signs for Catholics United for Racial Equality (C.UR.E.), a group that demonstrated for social justice. Media coverage of the group picketing the church in 1965, influenced the extremely conservative Cardinal Mac Intyre to provide space in Catholic schools for President Johnson's newly created War on Poverty Program, including Head Start. The Archidiocese never knew the woman they hired to direct this program had, while quietly raising two children and printing inspirational serigraphs. painted the signs carried by C.U.R.E. demonstrators. That was the spirit of the 60s! In the late 60s, Lucia's serigraphs came to the attention of Looart Press. She licensed the company to produce lithographic editions of some of her original fine art prints. These immensely popular Poetry Posters spoke to and for the "flower child generation". One of these posters, "From an April", appears in the movie, Love Story, hanging on a wall in the young couple's apartment. Lucia later designed the Lucia Treasury line of note and Christmas/holiday cards mass-marketed in the early 70s as well as felt poetry banners for Hallmark. She also designed pre-school educational toys for Mattel, including The "Talking Clock". In the mid-seventies, Lucia switched careers once again, receiving a Master's Degree in Psychology specializing in Art Therapy. She was the first to write about art journaling (The Creative Journal, 1979) and she pioneered Inner Child work (from flower child to inner child). She integrated all the arts into expressive arts therapy, and she trains practitioners and coaches from all over the world. Lucia has continued doing art, working in many media and exhibiting in southern California as well as the central coast. If you are interested in this poster, please see my other auctions.
