Summary: Matched Pair of pierced brass pentagonal shades with repeating fleur-de-lys panels, in the manner of those executed at Newcomb College, c. 1900-1910.
These shades are commonly referred to as ‘Newcomb College’ due to their known inclusion into the early curriculum and production at the school. Other design schools, in Cincinnati, Chicago and New York were also worked in this style – none of them appear to be marked. Pre-made craft kit examples can be found, these are commonly marked with the kit producer around the inside seams.
Dimensions (each): 6 ⅝” wide x 3 ⅝” high
Markings : no visible markings
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition. For accuracy one has a slight tear at the top and a missing rivet, and the other has some looseness at the seam – this is common and to these delicate shades and is in very good condition. The pinching is nice and even and the patina appears to be original.
