Mining District: Mogollon County: Catron Although the creek is not year-round flowing, there is still running water in mid-June, so it is safe to say the creek runs about 9-11 months of the year. Silver Creek has a depth of about 6 in. – 12 in. in the summer, with the occasional 18 in. depth in some areas and has good color visible to the naked eye! The width of the creek ranges between 2-5 feet during this time of the year, but shows a stream bed ranging from 20-50 ft., which means that during the snow melt season, Silver Creek is much larger and with a heavier flow than it would normally be in the summer. It would be best to work Silver Creek during the shallowest times due to the washout leaving all the minerals behind during snow melt and making them easily accessible in the shallow waters. GEOHRAPHY / GEOLOGY The Mogollon Range, in which the ore deposits are found, is composed of a section more than 8,000 feet thick of Tertiary lavas and pyroclastic rocks interbedded with subordinate amounts of sandstone and conglomerate. The ubiquitous Gila Conglomerate of Pliocene or Pleistocene age unconformably overlies the older Tertiary rocks.
