The serratus was simply a type of denarius with a serrated edge, a Republican eraattempt at a "security feature" so that the core of the coin could be viewed from theedges, showing off its status of being SOLID silver. The Obverse shows the left facing bust of Saturn.The Reverse depicts Venus driving a biga (2 horse chariot) with Cupid flying above.The significance of this reverse type is to allude to the Memmii family's legendaryTrojan ancestry. Authenticated and encapsulated by the NGC, it was given the grade "VERY FINE" with a4/5 for Strike and a 5/5 for Surface.
