Seller: detector_who (8) 100%, Location: Mecklenburg, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 253478869841 Cast iron projectiles point Medieval arrowheads or crossbow bolts of probable 13th -15th century date. It has a narrow point of square cross-section and a tang of circular cross-section. This is reminiscent of the 'bodkin' type arrowheads which came into use in the 13th century, replacing the earlier, flat-bladed arrowheads due to their greater efficacy at piercing leather, mail and plate armour and the majority of these arrowheads were socketed. The arrowheads are of bullet headed type, with a head that is small, long and slender, presumably designed to give it increased penetrative power for piercing steel armour. It certainly seems more likely to be of a type used in battle rather than in hunting. The arrowhead is socketed, although much of the socket is missing. The socket is circular whilst the form of the arrowhead is lozenge shaped in section. The form of the socket continues as a tapering rib which runs down the centre of the point towards the end. Material: Bronze
