I have now dissolved my collection of many years - this is my very last one. An original vessel from The Kingdom of Baktria (today Afghanistan) circa 2,000 years old in excellent condition and without restoration. Has some encrustations and nice iridescence! Product : Indo-Greek Glass Flask Age : Approximately 100 BC - 100 AD Material: Green Glass Size : About 2.5" at its widest and 4.0" high Condition: Beautiful condition, undamaged, museum piece. Encrustations, some iridescence (a process that happens with age. Flat on the bottom, stands on its own. This Ancient glass piece is approximately 2,000 years old, dating back to the time of the Greek and the beginning of the Roman Empire. It was dug in today's Afghanistan which was known as the Bactrian Kingdom of North Central Asia during ancient times. The Bactrian Kingdom was one of the major trading centers of the Ancient World with Camel caravans carrying salt and spices to Europe. This brought incredible wealth into the world of the Bactrians who were centuries ahead of their time as a modern and innovative society, with accomplishments in industry, philosophy, human awareness and art. These ancient glass pieces were once beads, jars, cups, vases, perfume containers and decorative tiles. Over the passing of the ages, buried under the earth, the objects sometimes broke into pieces and began collecting earth mineral deposits. The deposits form unique colors, known to experts as patina. Each of these glass pieces are a unique testament of the craftsmanship at ancient times and vary considerably in appearance and preservation. This flask comes form a glass mold and typically depicts deities resembling Medusa or Janus. This particular piece is rare in its condition - it is my best one and I kept it until the end.
