ANTIQUE McINTOSH BATTERY & OPTICAL COMPANY SIX "(6) CELL COMBINED GALVANIC & FARADIC BATTERY" W/ BATTERY PATENT SEPT. 12 - 1882 ELECTRO-QUACK MEDICAL BOX This unusual McINTOSH BATTERY & OPTICAL CO. - CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ELECTRO-QUACK MEDICAL box with accessories contains two WONDERFULLY sophisticated batteries of which both cell casings are marked "McINTOSH" - with one being made of GUTTA PERCHA and the other of GLASS. Both vestibules are in perfect shape with no cracks or chips. ONE BATTERY cell is for FARA DIC BATTERY electro-impulses and the other is for GALVANIC BATTERY electro-impulses; i.e. as in "COMBINED GALVANIC & FARADIC BATTERY" use as shown on the paper label. Apparently the GUTTA PERCHA BATTERY CELL encasement stamped "McINTOSH COMBINED BATTERY PAT. 12,1882" can be switched around from GALVANIC and then FARADIC use. Note that the GLASS celled battery can be mounted at deliberate angle to put it in use as shown. The wood cross-slat is removeable in order to re-position it so it can support the battery cell at a angle - and the cell sets into the wood box frame at an angle as the wood side is slanted to accommodate same. If one looks all over eBay one rarely finds, if at all a early quack medical box with this elaborate a battery system from 1882. For its day, it was an great advancement in battery technology. Currently on eBay, there is nothing that comes close to this quack battery box. Wear and condition consistent with age and use. Please look at photographs as they are part of the description.
