Item:153211060091Lower palaeolithic - Fine acheulean pick. c.350,000BP UK found. A superb acheulean blade. Produced on an elongated flake. The dorsal face has a main plunging edge and an oblique plunging distal end. Some cortex is retained on opposing edge. These cutting edges display profuse and superb, fine retouch. The opposing edge aslo has an area of fine abrupt retouch, presumably to aid handling. This piece has a quite wonderful, glassy, shiny orange ancient patina. Of note are the remnants of ancient marine encrustations still adhering to the ventral face! Size: 8cm x 3.5cm From an old collection.
