Seller: renham23 (1,139) 100%, Location: Faversham, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 153193467138 Palaeolithic - Rare UK found chopper. c.350,000+BP. A superb and enormous early acheulean pebble chopper. Of a size rarely seen, this artifact must have been used by a considerable individual! Probably the work of H.heidelbergensis. Produced on a heavy section or a large river pebble. The main lateral edge, on the dorsal face, displays bold, heavyweight flake shaping along much of its length. A shallow flake removal on the dorsal face is placed in the perfect position for a thumbhold? However as the patina differs from that of the cutting edges retouch, its probably an earlier, but fortuitous placement! Glassy ancient patina. A rare, large display artifact. Size 12cm x 8cm (over 1/2kg. 1.1lbs!) From an old collection. Details and provenance supplied Always happy to combine on postage.
