The ring has a square bezel engraved with the owners name in monogram form. The initials SAB possibly for Sabinus, BAS for Bassianus etc. The square shaped bezel became popular with signets from the 3rd century, predominantly found on marriage rings from the late Roman and early Byzantine period of the 5th century. This example is in perfect excavated condition, of good quality silver and a clear sharp monogram.
