Item:223172179291The original was found near Kirktomy, Farr, Sutherland, extreme north of Scotland, in 1887.Part of the Duke of Sutherland collection, Dunrobin Castle.The axe has a distinctive round shoe. A very strong axe, 150mm 375g. Appears to have been made by a left-handed smith.Two different hammers were used in the manufacture of the original.This type also found in Staffordshire, Tamworth Museum handling collection.Third from left in group photo.Freepost UK.
