Item:333339881285LARGE Nayarit Female Pottery- 13" tall Up for offer is what we believe to be an ancient Nayarit female statue- seated with hand on belly and a pottery bowl held to her shoulder. Legs are extended and her proportions are in line with how they made them, where anatomy might be larger (booty), head smaller due to genetics, large legs and tiny feet, etc. Looks to have war paint or some sort of face paint on the facial area. There are lots of black specks which are believed to be manganese- representative of items that were part of burial rituals thousands of years ago. ***NOTE- we have not taken it for authentication because that can be expensive, but we did extensive research and watched videos on how to tell if it possibly is the real deal. All information given is and what I can see/hear/smell and I took as many pics as I could upload, including up close pics so you can try and tell for yourself before bidding. I've read it's really best to go by your senses to test it on your own, so: Sight- very rustic, some dirt looking areas, has tons of black spots (not in a spray pattern) that have rough edges that look like real manganese places. We contacted a nice archeaologist that had written a paper on the Nayarit statues when she was in college, so we sent her the pics first and asked lots of questions. She sent back lots of positive feedback saying it looks authentic just from what we've shown her and told her. We told her that there are really old looking spiderwebs inside and one even has an old dead bug inside (which she was SUPER interested in). I tried to get a pic of that but it's difficult to get one inside of the head area to show it all- there is one pic of the inside. Sound- We read that if you thump the piece and it makes a high "ting" sound, it's not authentic, but if you thump it and it makes a deep sound, that's a positive sign. We thumped it in different places and it doesn't make a ting sound. Smell-smells like dirt. Feel-slight texture/light roughness, probably from the black areas (manganese?). Weight- a touch over 4lbs Taste- no thanks... ;) Large Nayarit Seated Female West Mexico BELIEVED to be c. 30 BC-AD 30.
