Seller: hawkins0_3 (1,776) 99.7%, Location: Lancaster, Massachusetts, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 264195608095 Interesting standing smiling pre columbian Terracotta statue. 9.5 inches tall. Black glaze over the red pottery. Appears to look like that of the Remojadas style , Veracruz 'smiling face' whistle figure, Remojadas, Late Classic, c. A.D. 550-950 and restored. He was in pieces I guess like most were and painstakingly put back together. Hollow bodied and dark black details. The piece was broken into several pieces and has been meticulously repaired with glue or epoxy. Possibly a "Stargazer" figure There is no provenance on the piece. The original owner was an architect and appears to have traveled to Mexico due to finding clues of other artifacts and hats left behind in the home as well. I suspect a lot of these pieces have been found broken in ancient burial sites and have been reassembled by finding as many of the broken pieces as possible. There are a few minor pieces missing in the feet. There is a hole in back of the head that may have been used to hang the piece on a wall. He does stand on his own and there is some weight to him. This was an estate find. The people traveled all over the world. The woman was a fine basket weaver and her husband an architect. They had many other artifacts but this is what I was drawn to. Please look at the photos posted and ask questions if you have any and if you can add to this as far as more information that would be appreciated. We can not truly authenticate these figures because we just don't know but someone went to great lengths to put this one together and we have been to the museums like the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester Massachusetts and also in New York's Museums to look at others like this and online auctions. We find this piece to be very old and could be authentic. We have a few others as well that we have found over the years from estate sales and we are trying to be very careful with the sales of theses not knowing the true value. Whom ever purchases this is either making an investment or adding to their museum collection of pre Colombian artifacts. Provenance: Ownership History Not Available, Material: Terracota pottery
