It is a lady's traveling box/vanity case, English, c 1835.Mahogany with African Ebony veneer. Inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl. 12 1/4" wide, 7 1/4" high and 9" deep. The drawer is 11 1/8" x 8 1/4" x 1 1/4", with nine compartments. It is lined with rose silk, which is very finely piped in gold. The mirror is new and is 7 3/4" x 4 1/8".The lock has no key. It contains 4 round ribbed glass bottles with German Silver lids, one of which has a small dent. Including the lids, the bottles are 3 1/3" high.There are another 3 bottles with glass stoppers that are 3 1/4" high.And there are two little square glass bottles with glass stoppers. One has a broken rim and someone made a poor attempt at repair. They are 1 1/2" tall and have the original labels of 'Aromatic Vinegar'. There are three glass dishes with German Silver lids:1 1/2" x 3 1/3" x 1 1/2"3 1/2" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/2"1 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 7 1/8" The upper tray is fitted for lifting with two brass loops.The tray contains a hollow 1" compartment.The compartments of the upper tray are finely edged in African ebony.
