Seller: walters7790 (233) 98.4%, Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 303018116336 Up for sale is an antique/vintage Kelly Works/True Temper "Flint Edge" 3 lbs single bit axe. This axe is a Dayton style axe that features a single flared bit, thick cheeks, and a heavy pole for added swing weight. In this size and condition, this axe is most suited for basic splitting work. This tool has been fully restored, and is made from an original antique tool head that has been hand-fitted and hand-hung on a brand new handle. This axe was manufactured by the Kelly Axe and Tool Works. The combination of Kelly Works and the True Temper "Flint Edge" brand began in 1930, when the American Fork and Hoe Co. (True Temper) purchased the Kelly Co. The Flint Edge brand was continued through the 1960s, and this axe was most likely manufactured at some point within this time frame. This axe is the perfect tool for someone looking for a high quality axe that also has some old-world character. Axe details are as follows:3 lb Dayton style axe head stamped "True Temper/Flint Edge/Kelly Works"Brand new 32" handle treated with protective layer of boiled linseed oilTotal length of axe head is 6-7/8" longBit length is 4-1/4"Pole is 3" long and 1" thickThe tool steel of the head is currently protected with a light coat of boiled linseed oil to prevent rust prior to use. The tool steel is in excellent condition, with little to no pitting or scratching. The bit has seen considerable sharpening, and is not in an ideal profile at the top and bottom (see pictures). The bit has been ground by a previous owner at a very sharp angle, creating more of a wedge bit than a chopping bit. For this reason, it is recommended that this axe is best suited for basic splitting work. There is some slight mushrooming of the pole and along the top of the eye, but no splitting or cracking has developed (see picture). The head has been hand fitted with spoke shave/draw knife and tightly hand hung with wooden wedge. The tool is free of rust and damage. There are moderate signs of age/use, but no damage that would render the axe unusable. This axe is a good quality tool for someone looking for a basic, reliable splitting axe that will last them years to come. Please see pictures to gauge condition. _______________________________________________________________If you have any questions about the items in this listing, please do not hesitate to send me a message.
