The new company, located in Birmingham, England produced silver mounted glassware, stoneware, and ceramics until about 1920. Here is a rare John Grinsell and Sons globular cut glass claret jug with a plain silver-plated mount and hinged lid. It bears the John Grinsell and Sons Hallmark (Cupid standing) with the number 9378, on the lid. Interestingly, it also has the hand engraved initials JHN next to the hallmark (possibly a previous owner). The body is a uniform cut glass diamond pattern around the bowl and it has a star bottom. It measures about 6 ¼” high (including the lid) and 5” in diameter. It is in excellent condition for being around 100 years old. The lid and handle are heavily tarnished but could be cleaned and polished. John Grinsel and Sons was a highly respected company with showrooms in Holborn Circus, Glascow and London. Items were considered midrange, but high quality and very attractive. This is a rare chance to add such a fine claret jug to your collection. Condition: Excellent condition! (tarnished silver-plate), Age: 1871-1920, Brand: John Grinsell and Sons, Composition: Silverplate/Glass, Type: Claret Jug/Decanter/Pitcher
