This is a Japanese sword tanto , dagger in shirasaya mountings. The blade is signed "Minamoto Kiyomaro 源清麿", dated "Kaei Go-nen Nigatsu hi ( a day Feb., 1852) 嘉永五年二月日", osoraku-zukuri ,(long point) shape, late Edo period made blade. The blade is in old full polish, no rust and in mint condition. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada, no openings, no blisters and no forging flaws. There is no bend, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The blade is rested in new ho-wood shirosaya mountings with solid gold wash habaki, no crack, no dent and in good condition. It measures 10+3/8" cutting edge, 1+1/16" width, 6 mm thickness at the notch, 6+3/8" long point and 16+3/4" in mountings. Shipping is $10 priority in U.S. Payment due with in 3 days auction end.
