Item:123833304013J & E STEVENS KEY COMBINATION SAFE NO. 40 c.1897This well known cast iron antique bank is in superb condition. The surface has a sheen nickel plating which is in very good condition, as can be seen in the photos. It is a key and combination safe. There are eight keyholes. The combination is used to set the proper key hole, then the key is inserted and a procedure has to be used to open the safe door. I will include a USB video on a thumb drive to show exactly how to open it. A good condition No.40 safe should have a spring loaded dial and a spring loaded lock. This safe has both which can be clearly seen in one of the photos.I purchased this safe from an antique shop in Pennsylvania in 1976. The owner showed me how to open the lock. I’ve seen many of these No.40 safes listed on ebay, but it’s rare to find one like this with a fine original nickel finish and a smooth working original lock and key.Because of this quality, I was asking for $350 in my last listing. I am now asking $250.00. An excellent price for this 122 year old antique.PLEASE CHECK MY PHOTOS. NOTE: ALL THE PHOTOS WERE DONE WITH BRIGHT LIGHTING TO BEST SHOW THE FINISH I’m not a dealer. I’m a retired architect and antique collector. In the last few years, I’ve sold a lifetime of antiques and safe collections on ebay. I’m now down to my last several items.I will ship this in a Flat Rate Medium size Priority Mail Box the cost to all states is $13.60. This is a great gift for any collector.
