Depicted clearly on one side is the five toe dragon symbolic of the Emperor. On each of the sides there are scenes from the Royal Court giving an amazing insight into daily life and affairs of the time. There is a court scene with a dancer and musicians, a scene with attendants and depicting the Emperor seated in his throne, a traveling scene with a rickshaw and another scene that appears to depict advisers/scholars. The other side of the ink block has a stunning design of a bat, and archaistic dragons. It is large in size measuring approximately 8 7/8" long by 5 1/4" wide by 2 3/4" tall. The condition is excellent for hundreds of years of age. There is some faint surface crackles to the ink to be expected for a genuine ink cake hundreds of years old. The scenes on the sides are crisp and clear although there is some fading to the gold leaf and colors applied so many hundreds of years ago. These original Chinese ink cakes are well documented and rare to obtain. The photos form part of the description of this special antique. Private collection. Condition: 3 DAY RETURNS.
