I.D.'d Pennsylvania Double Armed Civil War Soldier Tintype. 1/4 Plate tintype of a Civil War Soldier with an I.D. scratched onto the reverse of the tin. This soldier wears a lighter colored kepi, white gloves and a frock coat. The buttons on his frock, the belt plate and the buckle on his kepi have all been gilded. He holds a musket at his side with a bayonet attached. Clearly the weapons are props because he also has a bayonet in its scabbard attached to his belt. The soldier also has a cap box on his belt. He also has, what appears to be, an Allen & Wheelock side hammer pistol. The image comes in a 1/2 wood and paper case. Of interest is the fact that the photographer's card is glued into the back of the case. The photographer was Elias W. Nagle of Easton, PA. On the back of the tin it reads: "Moyer" and either Bros or Benj or something similar. There is a 5 digit number "18476" and also a 4 digit number "1042" scratched onto the tin. 1042 is also scratched onto the brass frame and written in the back of the case. I did a bit of research and found that some of the 1st PA infantry was recruited out of Easton. There are many Moyers listed in PA units. I just so happens that there is a Benjamin F. Moyer from Easton who served in Company C of the 1st PA Infantry. This was a 90 day regiment that was mustered into service on 4/20/1861.
