This shield is powerfully built, with a reinforced cross design on the front that doubles up the thickness and protection. It measures about 25 inches in height, 15 inches in width. The blackened steel backside of the shield comes with a leather-wrapped handle near the top, an adjustable size leather strap to secure the forearm, and a padded leather-covered cushion to provide greater ease and comfort. This type of shield saw heavy use in the Middle Ages both on the battlefield and in exhibitions and tournaments where armored knights would battle for sport and glory.
