Seller: clioantiquities (175) 100%, Location: Wilmington, North Carolina, Ships to: US, Item: 132880975243 Group of 2 Byzantine Trail Decorated Glass Beads CULTURE / REGION OF ORIGIN: Early Byzantine Empire, Eastern Mediterranean DATE: 5th-7th Century AD DIMENSIONS: 2.0 cm (0.78 in.) long for the cylindrical example, 1.3 cm (0.51 in.) thick for the circular example DESCRIPTION: Both intact. First, a cylindrical glass bead, appearing black but possibly dark blue or purple, the ends neatly finished by grinding, with a single trail of yellow (or white now appearing yellow) glass making six rotations around the bead. Much of this is worn away but portions of the trail survive well at either end. Some surface pitting. Second, a well preserved early Byzantine bead, formed of very dark blue or purple glass, appearing black, the ends neatly ground down and polished in the flame, decorated across the center of the body with a single fine undulating thread of yellow glass, and at the ends with thick trails of yellow glass. Both examples are wearable.
