Here we have a beautiful set of three matched Victorian cast iron garden furniture pieces - A settee and two chairs! Appraisers tell me they are quite confident this set is Victorian, ie very likely pre-1900. It certainly has enough layers of paint on it for that to be true! It is cast iron. It has flat head nuts and bolts. The pieces are very, very heavy. It takes two people to move one piece, particularly the settee. I don’t find any signatures or foundry stamps but if there are any, the paint would have long since covered them up. This set does bear a strong similarity to Wood & Perot pieces and it did come from a cottage that was built in the early 1890s whose owners usually sold it furnished. Particulars: The settee: wonderfully COMFORTABLE to sit on! It measures approximately 36 inches across the front from tip to tip of the feet. The seat interior measures about 25 inches across. Seat height is about 14 inches. The back measures about 29 inches at its tallest point. Now, the settee has a break in the back, at the top, where the two side pieces join together. It must be an old, old, break because it is caked in paint. The break does not seem to bother the settee at all. Also, one leaf is missing along the top back which also seems to be no bother. Both boo-boos are barely noticeable when you look at the settee because it is so ornate and lovely. The settee is sturdy, solid, stable. Men and women alike tell me they feel very comfortable and safe sitting on it. The chairs: the backs measure about 30.5 inches at their highest, the seat diameter about 12.5 inches and the seat height is about 15.5 inches from the ground. The feet splay out to about 23 inches tip to tip, across the front. I recently had a welding repair done to one of the feet and the welder told me he was very impressed with the metal both quality and craftsmanship. He, too, said the set is very, very old because he does not see iron of this quality anymore. The chairs and settee all have the same deep, detailed pattern of leaves, vines and lion paws so hooray, this is a matched set! Now that's pretty unusual to find! This set is so beautiful that it takes your breath away seeing it across the green lawn. Buyer to arrange and pay for delivery - Thanks! Color: White, Decade: 1890s, Material: Cast Iron, Theme: Grapevines, Original/Reproduction: Antique Original, Type: Settee and chairs
