SERIAL NUMBER CAMC 321591 Basin Creek runs year-round and is just about the same size as the North Fork Tuolumne river – During storms and in Spring when the snow pack in the Sierra’s melts, the water level can rise by a couple of feet! Each time that happens, more gold is washed down from the source. This past winter moved quite a lot of material. Basin Creek starts on Duckwall mountain and carves its way down to the North Fork of the Tuolumne river. There are lots of boulders, bedrock and gravel bars that collect a lot of gold, making this a great location to pan, sluice, high-bank, crevice, snipe, moss, and metal detect. The claim is located just 6.5 miles from Tuolumne city and just a couple of miles up from its confluence with the North Fork Tuolumne river. The main road runs along the claim and there are a couple of pull out areas that can accommodate several vehicles. The road is couple hundred ft from the creek, but there are a couple of trails that make carrying equipment up and down a lot easier. A truly beautiful creek and the gold is flakes, fines, chunky pickers and some large 1 ounce+ have been found on this creek the last couple of years. There are 2 campgrounds just a couple of miles up the road. The campgrounds are seasonal with a fee. There are also several spots to tent camp on the claim, but the road down is closed to traffic, so no RVs. The area is some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. Perfect for camping, fishing, hiking and of course, prospecting!!! Tuolumne County is in the heart of California's Gold Region - it's roughly halfway between Fresno and Sacramento. Just 7 miles from Black Oak Casino and 13 miles from Sonora. We prospected this claim recently and got some decent gold, so there’s plenty of gold to be found. The best gold on this creek is being found in the banks on the claims above it. Feel free to go check the area, roads, access and campsites.
