On offer are two similar early 18th century (ca. 1700) French faceted candlesticks, each of which bears the R and crown assay mark (which is believed to have certified a brass quality standard), and one of which bears what is presumably a maker’s mark, “I B” or “L B”. The candlestick with the two marks is the slightly larger of the two, measuring 7.25 inches tall and weighing one pound; the other is 7 inches tall and weighs about 14 ounces. The base of each measures just under 4 inches wide.
As the photos should show, the larger candlestick has an old solder repair at the base of the stem. Both ’sticks show wear and chafing commensurate with their age. The stems are securely attached to the bases. Overall a handsome near-pair of marked candlesticks.
Buyer to pay actual cost of postage; international buyers are welcome.
