Seller: chaccone (22) 100%, Location: Wilmington, Delaware, Ships to: US, Item: 352973614928 Hermann Todt has been described by Antique Roadshow violin appraiser Fred Oster as “one of the most highly skilled violin makers in Markneukirchen,” and this is a fine example of his work from the 1920s. The violin is in excellent condition, and bears the maker's original brand on the inside back. The tone of this violin is immense and expressive. It has a large resonant voice on the lower strings, and a full silvery voice on the higher strings. The sound is clean and full all the way up the neck. It has excellent bow response, and can be played softly without losing timbre. The tone woods are gorgeous. The two-piece top is made from spruce with a straight narrow-width grain, and the two piece back, neck, and ribs are made from maple with strong figure and flame. The red-amber varnish is highly transparent, and was carefully and artistically shaded over a spectacular golden ground. It is not a violin that was artificially antiqued with bangs and nicks, and there is very little wear to the varnish other than a few minor nicks and scratches (see pictures). The fingerboard, pegs, and tailpiece are high-quality dense black ebony. The workmanship is clean and precise both inside and out. The scroll and peg-box are finely-carved and the purfling is expertly inlaid. The ffs are cleanly and precisely cut with beautiful fluting in the bottom wings. There is very little wear on the corners or inside the treble C-bout. The bridge and sound post were recently replaced by an expert luthier at David Bromberg's Fine Violins in Wilmington, Delaware. The dimensions are as follows: Length of Back: 356mm Upper Bout Width: 164mm Center Width: 112mmBottom Bout Width: 207mm Neck: 130mmBody stop: 195mm Please study the pictures closely as they are an essential part of the description.
