Seller: nellyblystrunk (296) 100%, Location: Santa Rosa, California, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 123464241587 This vintage ikat hinggi from the island of Sumba (Indonesia) is woven from hand spun cotton featuring vegetable dyes -- indigo and kombu (rust red). The design is exceptionally well executed with fine clear motifs which cover many important design elements: horse and riders (Sumba men ride horses); the skull tree, chickens, birds, and geometric designs, some of which mirror the antique earrings considered 'pusakas'- family wealth. The dyes are rich and strong. Weavings like this one are worn by Sumba's men, and used at ceremonies and burials. This weaving is 96 inches long with an additional 3" of wrapped fringe on either end. The width is 50 inches (two panels hand stitched in center). This beautiful textile would make a striking wall hanging or bed cover. It has a tight, fine ikat pattern and is in flawless condition, with no tears, holes or stains. It's between 30 and 60 years old. I purchased it in Indonesia about thirty years ago. Weavings made with vegetable dyes like this piece are becoming rarer, as contemporary Indonesians turn to store bought dyes and thread. I will ship it to you by USPS priority mail upon the receipt of your paypal payment. Condition: Used, Modified Item: No, Country/Region of Manufacture: Indonesia
