This is a miniature tooth, of a museum quality, item hand made, by the Scrimshawer123.Beautifully engraved by the renown John Adams. Stands 5 1/2 inches tall by 2 inches wide and weighs 250 approximately grams. The main side is the ship The Brandenberg which was a German frigate built in 1674. On the reverse is the English coat of arms featuring a unicorn and a lion wearing a crown, with the words “Dieu et Mon Droit” which means "God and my right". It is the motto of the Monarch of the United Kingdom outside Scotland. The motto is said to have first been used by Richard I (1157–1199) as a battle cry. Around the coat of arms are the words "Honi soit qui mal I pense" which is a French maxim used as the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter. It is translated as "May he be shamed who thinks badly of it"or "Shame be to him who thinks evil of it" or "Evil be to him that evil thinks". The Flag Ship USS Lawrence. Finely engraved scrimshaw featuring "The Flag Ship Lawrence" in the middle bannered scroll and a young "Commodore Perry" on the reverse, beautifully engraved. The Perry brothers ancient family of mariners can be referenced on the internet.Great depiction of a portrait of "Flag Ship Lawrence" which fought in The Battle of Lake Erie, on 10 September 1813, where nine ships of the United States Navy defeated and captured six vessels of the British Royal Navy. The Lawrence was battered by the assortment of long guns mounted in Detroit before being able to reply effectively. When the last gun on Lawrence became unusable, Perry transferred his flag rowing a half mile (1 km) through heavy gunfire to Niagra while Lawrence was surrendered. Perry won the battle on Niagra, though he received the British surrender on the deck of the recaptured Lawrence.Historical references are correct, so acts as an ideal teaching aid.
