DESCRIPTION: Intact. A Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period faience ushabti, with surface colors ranging from bright blue to a pale blue-green, exhibiting minimal surface wear and only light encrustation. The figure is typically mummiform, with the face, wig, beard and crossed arms well defined. The lower body is divided by shallow grooves into three rows, as if prepared to receive a dedicatory inscription. The back is flat and undecorated. An old inked tag adhering to the underside reads “507.” PROVENANCE: Formerly in a Los Angeles private collection, acquired by the most recent owner on the U.S. art market in the late 1980s.
