Seller: artemisgallerylive (37) 100%, Location: Louisville, Colorado, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 263781346495 LOT 7Seller's Estimate: USD 900 - 1,400 Ancient Egypt, Late Period, ca. 712 to 300 BCE. A quartet of matching amulets, each made from grey-blue faience, showing the four sons of Horus. Each is mummiform and shown in profile, with a head denoting which son he is, and a drilled hole for an eye and at the heel, the latter presumably for suspension. Remains of black paint on two of them reveal that they once had elaborate decoration painted on their surfaces. The four Sons of Horus are Duamutef (jackal form), Imsety (human form), Hapi (baboon form), and Qebehsenuef (hawk form). Horus's sons were charged with protecting the internal organs of mummies, as they had originally been charged with protecting the body of Osiris; as a result, their heads often form the lids of canopic jars.
