Seller: muddy-feet (2,356) 100%, Location: Kent, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 112213997831 For sale; from my personal fieldwalking collection, is this superb Early Upper Palaeolithic, leaf shaped end and side scraper. It dates to the so called Transitional Period of the EUP. L-R-J (Lincombian-Ranisian-Jermanowician) This tool has been made on a leaf shaped olivine-quartz blade. It is triangular in section with a wonderfully plano-convex ventral side. The dorsal side has a low central crest from end to end with a arounded distal scraper. Both lateral edges are sharp and straight. A rare and collectable tool that is in museum grade condition. Found Northfleet, Kent. C 40,000 years BPE Length: 68 mm Width: 40 mm Thickness: 14 mm Weight: 44.9 grams Between 40,000-35,000 years ago, a so called transitional period existed called the "Lincombian-Ranisian-Jerzmanowician” L-R-J. It was confined to North Western Europe on a narrow parallel between Wales in the West and Poland in the east with higher concentrations of lithic types being found in Britain. The L-R-J is the Northern European equivalent of the Chattelperronian that is found in France and Spain. It is generally accepted that this Early Upper Palaeolithic tool industry was the work of the last remaining neanderthals rather than anatomical modern humans. This was a brief period of time (around 5k years) when both species coexisted in separate groups. L-R-J assemblages are characterised by leaf and blade points with bifacial retouches. These lithic tools are often found mixed in together with Mousterian and Aurignacian assemblages. This rare tool is in museum grade condition with detailed working and wonderful patination. As I have personally found each artefact in my collection, I am able to offer a money back guarantee of authenticity. The area where this tool was found has been subjected to a great deal of construction activity, including road and railway building, it is likely that it was disturbed through these activities. _gsrx_vers_779 (GS 7.0.4 (779)) Condition: A genuine artefact with provenance.
