It has a spike handle and relief decoration of a vine with leaves on the shoulders, with a small cross in low relief just above the nozzle. The base is a simple raised circle. Intact, with soot on the nozzle from use. A well preserved example of a popular pottery oil lamp type in the early Byzantine Levant. PROVENANCE: Formerly in a Colorado private collection, assembled by a United Nations staffer while working in the Middle East in the mid-1960s, thence by descent to the most recent owner.
